booking
The Microindie organization is a group of people that got together to bring more indie
shows to the Grand Rapids area. Grand Rapids is not a regular stop for most bands but we
are "on the way" from Detroit to Chicago, or vice versa. We book or help book
about two shows a month. We also follow up this booking with promotion to help the show be
a success. Our goal is to have the show be a positive experience for the audience, the
band, and our organization.
There are two general ways we operate. One is to handle everything, booking the show,
venue, promotion, working the door, sound, and paying the band. For these shows we will
usually line up a venue that holds 50-100 people or so, or at least looks decently full at
50 people. The other is to give you our contacts to line up the show yourself, and we help
the venue promote it. This would be for bands that have a larger draw or guarantee. Please
check out this venues link for additional info.
Promotional efforts include making our own members aware
of the show, press, radio, pavement and other methods. We ask that
you help us help you by providing promos/press kits/photos/tour posters and any other
items you can supply to aid in getting the word out. To be honest, an unknown band with no
promotion playing here can be and usually is pointless for all concerned. For more
information about the individual aspects of promotion please follow the links to read
about them.
If you have read all of this info and want to contact Microindie about a show please
send an email to: booking@microindie.org (Mike
Babb)
And send a something so we can hear your band to:

If you have read all of this and prefer to handle things yourself, we can be supportive
of this d.i.y. effort as well, but please drop us a line so we'll know about it.
One final thing: in our experience there are usually more bands looking for shows than
we can accommodate. If we turn you down it can be for a variety of reasons. Please don't
take it personally. Use our information to book your own show if you choose, or try again
next time through the midwest.
